Apa bezanya, kalau sebuah syarikat berkaitan kerajaan atau Government Linked Company (GLC) seperti Malaysian Airlines yang turut dimiliki Khazanah Nasional Berhad sebanyak 69.34 peratus milikan modal berbayar syarikat penerbangan itu melalui anak syarikat Khazanah, Penerbangan Malaysia Berhad (PMB) tidak membantu ekonomi pengeluar makanan di negara sendiri?
Dan Khazanah Nasional pula adalah syarikat milik kerajaan.
Ok, ringkasnya pulak.

As trustees to the nation's commercial assets, our main objective is to promote economic growth and make strategic investments on behalf of the Government which would contribute towards nation building."
So it says in their web.
Well, if I read it correctly, in promoting economic growth does include those of local produced products isn't it? Perhaps, Khazanah Nasional people may see this as a petty issue but, considering in December 2008 alone, MAS carries 5 million passengers for domestic route, definitely it will be a significant number for a whole year kan.
Almost every Ali, Ahmad, Zaleha, Hussein, Ismail knows that the ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs is doing somethingg to help to market the locally produce products to both domestic and international market. Their effort is much to be said, and to be given due recognition.
Since 2003, objektifnya ialah untuk memasarkan produk keluaran kita iaitu Perusahaan Kecil dan Sederhana (PKS) ke pasaran antarabangsa, sekaligus merancakkan ekonomi pengusaha. Dan kebanyakan pengusaha ini beroperasi di luar bandar. Apabila permintaan meningkat, ia membuka peluang pekerjaan kepada surirumah, untuk potong bawang, potong ubi, packaging, dan pelbagai lagi.
Petani pun dapat tempias. Kalau dulu, orang cakap balik kampung tanam ubi, sekarang tanam ubi boleh kaya. Kalau dilakukan secara serius dan komersil. Tapi kalau setakat baling dua tiga batang ubi kat tanah belakang rumah, expect nak jadik jutawan, baik korang pergi tikam ekor.
Kalau sebelum ni, produk kerepek ubi atau kerepek pisang, kerepek keladi, kerepek sukun hanya ada di R&R ataupun di Ayer Hitam, Johor, produk yang sama juga sudahpun memasuki pelbagai pasaran antarabangsa dengan bantuan pelbagai agensi pembantu seperti SMIDEC, Mara, Perbadanan Usahawan Johor Bahru (PUJB) meningkatkan packaging presentation produk terbabit.
Dan baru-baru ini, kraftangan Malaysia juga sudah dijual di Harrods. Itu satu kebanggaan.
Mengikut laporan KPDNHEP, sehingga Sept 2007 sahaja, sebanyak 315 pengusaha PKS dengan 2,717 jenis produk telah menyertai program promosi ini dan daripada jumlah tersebut, sebanyak 190 pengusaha PKS dengan purata 1800 jenis produk telah berjaya disenaraitetap di pasaraya-pasaraya berkaitan.
Kalau dulu iaitu pada 1991, Hajah Mariam Boon menjual kerepek cukup di kedai kecilnya di Rengit, Batu Pahat, kini melalui bantuan nasihat dan tunjuk ajar dari Mardi, Hajah Mariam sudahpun memiliki produk yang diterima pasaran dalm dan luar negara, dengan piawaian antarabangsa.
Tetapi alangkah malangya apabila sebuah penerbangan milik negara - Malaysian Airlines menghidangkan snek buatan Itali dalam penerbangannya.
There is nothing wrong to be serving Italian-made snack in a flight, if only there is no local product that we may choose from. In this case, however, we have an abundance of products made by our own Mak Jah, Pak Ali, Hajah Mariam and the list continues.
Wait, Mak Jah's product is not up to MAS standard? So why is it that SMIDEC has various grants for improvement of packaging, product development thru R&D and many more? Why is it that Carrefour places our local products at their shelves in other countries too while MAS is serving an Italian made product on their DOMESTIC flight?
MAS is a GLC company. Whoever works for GLC will be saying this to themselves: I am doing my country a national service. Yes, national service. So, how does your national service stint benefits an Italian company? Why can't you have our own product in our own plane?
This kerepek ubi will cost you RM1.90 only.

Kalau my calculation is right, in December 2008, MAS flies 5 million passengers on his DOMESTIC flight. Kalau setiap seorang dihidangkan dengan snek kerepek ubi berharga RM1.90 ni, wah kaya tokeh kerepek ubi ni. Of course, since MAS is buying in bulk, lets say the fortunate entrepreneur sells at RM1.00.
So RM1.00 x 5,000,000 per month = RM5,000,000.00 gross income.
But biasanya only short flight sahaja yang dapat snek seperti ini kan? Kalau flight seperti KL Kuching tentunya kita dapat nasi bungkus or in MAS case - nasi kekotak. :)
Maka, kalaulah usahawan PKS tempatan dapat menjual produk mereka kepada MAS untuk dihidangkan kepada penumpang MAS, mesti suka diaorang. Aku pun nak tanya orang tua aku, ada tak tanah warisan yang lalang atau hutannya tak ditebang lagi untuk aku bercucuk tanam, tanam pisang, ubi.

And no, your cabin won't look kampung or terlalu 'desa' at all. Alah, lagipun yang kerja kat cabin tu pun lagi teruk dari perangai orang kampung kan, so apa salahnya kalau ada produk kampung ni, kan kan kan. These days, it is easy to find a nice presentable packaging kerepek ubi or kerepek pisang on the shelves.
But, since MAS subscribes to their Italian-connection, well lets do the maths for Loacker with the same formula.
One month 5 million passengers for Loackers. Lets go with an average of 2 million per month x 12 months = 24 millions Loacker. Kaya tokeh Loacker. Kaya sesangat. Mesti bosses of MAS gembira sebab dapat bantu ekonomi Itali. Dan pastinya tokeh Khazanah turut melonjak suka sebab membantu ekonomi sebuah negara yang ada pertalian saudara dengan kita di Malaysia ni. Yelah negara kita kan terletak dalam ruang lingkup EU.
Terima kasih MAS kerana wang itu disalurkan keluar ke negara lain, instead of helping to stimulate the SME industry here in your own country. But before that, please check your last known address. Does it says Parit or Kampung or something? Unless it states Pescara, I cant say anything.

sebab aku dah awal-awal pesan, bukan boleh naik kapal terbang pun kalau meniaga kerepek ubi.

I dah lama tak naik MAS. Last kali masa pi London 2 years ago. Tu pun sebab gomen bayar. Kalau sendiri i tak mampu...mahal.

Lagi satu perkara, makanan impot macam Loacker wafer ni tak halal - MAS punya big boss tak kisah kan!
